  1. ‘Wild Flight: Conquest of the Skies’ at IMAX Victoria (opens August 18) 

Wild Flight: Conquest of the Skies 3D uses the very latest science and stunning special effects to uncover the 300-million-year story of flight as never before. The most advanced filming technology allows us to show the beauty and excitement of life on the wing, from the fastest predatory falcons to the most acrobatic of insects, night flyers like owls and bats, and the soaring and gliding specialists capable of traveling huge distances.

  1. Pet-a-Palooza (August 12 & 13) 

Paws on Cook presents Pet-a-Palooza™ Victoria. This free and pet friendly event will have entertainment including dock diving, wiener dog races, a puppy stampede and a running of the bulls! Join the crowd for entertainment, doggy treats and swag bags for your furry companions!

  1. Victoria Fringe Festival (August 23 – September 3) 

A Vancouver Island festival tradition for thirty years, Victoria Fringe Theatre Festival takes over downtown Victoria BC each summer for a 12-day celebration of live performance from around the world, featuring an eclectic mixture of spoken word, drama, musicals, dance, comedy, magic, theatre for young audiences and more.

  1. The Vancouver Island Western Heritage Association presents ‘Bulls, Broncs & Barrels’ (August 19 & 20) – e-mailed for B-Roll

Join a group of dedicated people bringing Rodeo back to Coombs. Come to the 3rd annual Bulls, Broncs & Barrels. A two-day Central Island rodeo weekend with working cowboys & cowgirls from BC and Alberta farms and cattle ranches, competing in the Bull Riding, Bareback Riding and Saddle Bronc events. And the Island’s best barrel racers riding horses built for speed, racing the clock for prize money!

  1. Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder at the Butchart Gardens (August 16) 

His passion for music has won the hearts of audiences across the country and around the world. 

The open-air concert will take place on the Concert Lawn stage at 8pm.  Arrive early to enjoy The Gardens and then enjoy the show. There is limited bench seating, or bring a chair or blanket and sit on the lawn for this Butchart Gardens Special Event.

  1. MS Bike Cowichan Valley Experience (August 19 &20) 

MS Bike is the largest fundraising cycling series in North America and it’s the experience of a lifetime! Every year since 1989, cyclists of all ages and fitness levels across the country get together to end Canada’s disease: multiple sclerosis. Excitement, challenge, and community; we know you’ll leave with a sense of great accomplishment.

  1. The Sooke Fine Arts Show (July 28 – August 7)

The Sooke Fine Arts Show showcases the work of the finest artists from Vancouver Island and BC’s coastal islands. Celebrating its 31st anniversary in 2017, it is Vancouver Island’s longest-running juried fine art show and the region’s premier summer arts event.

  1. Atmosphere (August 18 – 20) 

Collaborative forces Cumberland Village Works, Mt. Eliah Presents and the festival friendly community of Cumberland are stoked to serve up the 4th course of Atmosphere Gathering this August. Join the crowd for three stages of musical mastery, mind tingling workshops, culinary vendors and place it upon a beautiful landscape sprinkled heavily with art and splendour.

  1. Oaklands Sunset Market (Wednesdays until August 30th

The Oaklands Sunset Market runs every Wednesday from 4:30pm to 8:30pm until August 30th at the Oaklands Community Centre. The Market is a free, weekly community celebration featuring over 50 local food growers and producers, artisans, crafters, and body products, live music, a bi-weekly beer garden, and a space for the community to come together and meet their neighbours.
